2016 Wedding Trends
Although it feels like we celebrated Christmas only yesterday, 2016 is approaching its end. Here in the Northern Cape we have enjoyed a rather dry start to the year, encountered a not too cold winter, and the leaves have barely fallen. It is September (again) – the start of our summer 2016/2017 wedding season!
If you are getting married this summer season, I am sure that you have already planned every last bit of your special day. If you are like me, indecisive and always waiting until the last minute, be sure to make use of some of this year’s trends.
So what’s trending?
This year Pantone introduced both Rose Quartz and Serenity as their Color of the Year. A blend of calm and relaxation. Keeping it natural and soft. Blush Pink and Rose Gold has made quite the scene, collaborating very nicely with Rose Quartz.
This year is also about bling, but without the bling. Metallic palettes are really popular at the moment. Be sure to have some statement metallic pieces, or bring in some sequenced metallic in your table runners, bridesmaids dresses, backdrops or how about some metallic lanterns or chandeliers?
For a great atmosphere make use of pendant lights and open Edison bulbs.
Floral arrangements will definitely be incorporating some food elements – fruit & vegetables such as kale, artichokes, grapes, herbs, etc. Don’t be afraid to do it! Step away from the traditional stiff posy shaped arrangements and let the flowers take shape elaborately. Weird is wonderful.
Naked & Semi-Naked cakes are all the rage! Back to good old buttercream. If you are a wild one and love having something totally interesting, metallic frosted wedding cakes will suit you!
Gone are the days of ‘matching’. The Groom doesn’t have to wear a suit/tie/vest in the colour of the wedding and bridesmaids shouldn’t all be wearing the same dress. Make your wedding much more fun and unique – have the bridesmaids each choose their own lovely number suited to their own body, style and personality. Just be sure to keep it in your wedding theme and colour. (P.S. the ladies can always wear these dresses again.)
Floral print for the bold and brave bride. If you like the floral print and would like to use it in your wedding, be sure to add some bright florals. Couples are also moving away from round table seating making use of long rectangular tables instead. Either place a few tables together for a long table seating (20+ people) or make use of unconventional seating where shorter rectangular tables are placed asymmetrically in the wedding venue, creating a more intimate and cozy atmosphere. Draping of ceilings are something from a previous century. Instead use statement pieces – florals, candelabras and unique décor are used to take your wedding to a whole new level.
That’s it from me for trend blog. I hope you have the most amazing wedding!
And if you are getting married in 2017, be sure to check back at the end of the year for our 2017 Wedding Trends.
