Errol & Rejane

Good food, good wine and a good time with our friends and family.

How did you meet?

We were introduced by my cousin. He and Errol were both production managers on the same farm and shared a house at the time. Before I left for university, my cousin offered me a summer job helping out during the grape harvest and packing season. Errol and I kept in touch and started dating a year later.

How did the Mr propose?

I went to Potchefstroom to support my sisters during their exams. He arranged for my sisters to take me to the Feather Hill Boutique Hotel Spa Venue to ‘look at the zebras.’ After an amazing meal we went out to the lapas that overlook the drinking hole ‘where the zebras drink.’ The lapa was decorated with flowers, there was champagne on ice, and he went down on one knee as the sun was setting… (I still have not seen the zebras).

The planning process

We jumped right in, taking a full hands-on approach – find a place you like, and book it…easy! Not so much. Doing it yourself takes A LOT of time, and getting a farmer off the farm to look at venues is no mean feat.  Luckily Paula (Red Ribbon Events & Weddings) brought her experience and imagination to our rescue.  After making the big decisions: date, venue, number of guests etc., we were comfortable leaving the finer details in her capable hands.

The dress

I knew exactly what I wanted – off-white, mermaid, with a key-hole back. But that did not make it any easier to find. After numerous unsuccessful boutique visits, I finally found my dream dress online.

The day you envisioned

We wanted a stylish, yet comfortable atmosphere. Good food, good wine and a good time with our friends and family. The colours we chose were burgundy, black and gold. All very formal, but Paula’s unfinished wooden under-plates and use of cacti on the tables gave it a more relaxed and rustic feel.
