On a lovely Spring day in the Green Kalahari, we promised each other forever.
With the Orange River as backdrop and sunshine to colour their day, this fairy tale wedding became a true story. Thanks to Donovan Eva for capturing all the special moments.
Their story
We first laid eyes on each other seven years ago, at the ‘Eiland Resort.’ It was love at first sight and a few months later we made it official. As life goes, we encountered a little heartache and ended the relationship after two years. But we are meant to be together and our paths crossed again later upon which Morné asked if we could try again? Of course I said yes.
The Mr’s proposal
On our way to a lovely holiday, driving in the romance that only misty mornings and soft rain can provide, Morné seemed to think that something was wrong with the car. On top of a mountain pass he stopped to inspect a tyre and asked me to come around to assist. When I came around the car he was on one knee and asked me if I would be his wife? I said YES!

Some guys on motorbikes and a lot of revs
The groom has always wanted a motorbike, but I have put my foot down (it’s safer on the ground – literally) and said ‘no’ – unfortunately not, even though he hints in such a cute manner: “It is built for two, me and you.” So for our special day we had the local bikers act as the bridal car’s entourage with the bridesmaids on the back of the bikes. A little spoil for the groom.
Special moments and cherished memories
Close to our hearts are the moments we made it official – the placing of the rings on the fingers and the moments we promised forever saying, ‘I do.’ Walking down the aisle was also special – the beginning of our lives together.
Did you do anything yourselves?
Our vendor took care of most of our wedding day’s details, but we made beautiful signs out of raisin pallets to complement our special day.
The dress and inspired attire
I saw my dress on the internet when browsing for ideas and I absolutely fell in love with it. I then asked Maureen Wilson from Exclusive Wedding Dresses & Accessories if they will be able to make it for me. And they made the dress to perfection – exactly as I wanted it.
For the future bride, a few wise words:
It is YOUR special day, so don’t mind what others are saying about your day. It will be stressful at times, but in the end every minute of trouble is worth it.
